NC Do-it-Yourself Divorce: Complaint Directions


1. Under NORTH CAROLINA, fill in the name of the county you are filing in.

2. On the line above the word Plaintiff on the left side of the form,
    fill in your name.

3. On the line above the word Defendant on the left side of the form,
    fill in your spouse's name.

4. Under the sentence that says, The Plaintiff, complaining of the Defendant,
    alleges: next to #1, fill in the county you live in before the word County. You
    will do this two times in #1.

5. In #2, fill in the name of the county that your spouse lives in before the word
    County and fill in the state your spouse lives in after the word County.

6. In #3, fill in the date that you and your spouse were married on after the
    phrase married on or about. Next fill in the date that you and your spouse
    stopped living together after the phrase lived together as husband and wife
    until or about.

7. In #4, after the phrase That since, fill in the date that you and your spouse
    stopped living together. This will be the same as the date you filled in in #3 for
    the date that you and your spouse stopped living together.

8. Your #5 will be different depending on whether or not you and your spouse
    have children from you marriage. If you do not have children your COMPLAINT
    will have a #5 that says: There were no children born of this marriage. If you do
    have children with your spouse, you will have to fill in the number of children
    you have after the phrase There were and you will fill in the child(ren)'s names
    followed by their birthdates after the phrase to wit: (example: James Doe born
    March 5th, 1989).

9. Next, you will date the form with the day of the month, the month of the year,
    and the year that you are signing the form.

10. After dating the form, you, the Plaintiff, sign the form.

11. Underneath your signature you will fill in your address.

12. You will need (1) one original copy of the COMPLAINT,
      and (2) two copies of the COMPLAINT
